Federal Pro Se Legal Assistance Project: Sarah Libowsky, Associate at Cleary Gottlieb, Steen, & Hamilton LLP
The Federal Pro Se Legal Assistance Project provides litigation assistance to self-represented individuals who seek to file, or have filed, a civil suit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
Sarah Libowsky, associate at Cleary Gottlieb, Steen, & Hamilton LLP, first joined the Federal Pro Se Legal Assistance Project in November 2022 as a volunteer in its pro bono clinic, and she has been consistently serving in that capacity ever since. Sarah meets with and provides advice to litigants seeking assistance in various stages of their litigation, and in so doing, she has encountered a breadth of substantive legal issues including employment law, copyright infringement, and products liability. While assisting litigants with procedural matters, she has prepared a motion for default judgment, has had discussions about amending complaints, and has explained decisions rendered by the Court to those unfamiliar with the court process. Sarah has provided thoughtful case memoranda reflecting her discussions, advice, and any follow-up research that would be helpful to the litigants she has assisted. Sarah’s service is a tangible asset to assisting pro se litigants who have limited means to hire an attorney for representation, and we are thankful for her commitment to the project.
The Federal Pro Se Legal Assistance Project congratulates Sarah for her compassionate and thoughtful service and is proud to present her with a 2023 Outstanding Pro Bono Service Award.
