Cancer Advocacy and Elderlaw Projects: Fredric M. Brooks, Partner at Blank Rome LLP

The Cancer Advocacy and Elderlaw Projects help cancer patients and survivors, and seniors, prepare their wills and healthcare advance directives.

Fredric Brooks, Partner at Blank Rome LLP, has been a much-appreciated member of the Cancer Advocacy and Elderlaw Projects’ volunteer panel since 2016. His first client was an elderly veteran who attended a Wills clinic at Blank Rome LLP where he helped a client complete his estate planning documents. After he and his team completed that case, Rick continued to engage with the project and has assisted multiple cancer patients, survivors, and seniors maintain their independence and sense of autonomy. He has provided direct assistance to both the projects’ client populations by drafting their Wills and advance directives, and always exhibits exceptional patience and compassion. He has gone above and beyond for a client who is slowly navigating the logistics of planning for her legacy and potential physical incapacity, including helping her learn how she can accomplish her burial wishes.  In addition, he has assisted fellow volunteers by serving as a witness for numerous clients who could not provide their own. Continuing to serve as a witness during the height of the pandemic and social distancing, when these documents were especially critical, exemplifies the true spirit of an attorney with a profound sense of compassion. Through his volunteering, Rick has undoubtedly made a significant impact on the lives of many of our clients and their families.

We truly appreciate Fredric’s longstanding partnership, and we are delighted to present him with a 2023 Outstanding Pro Bono Service Award.
