NELP and Partners Serve 40 Small Business Owners For National Small Business Month

by The Neighborhood Entrepreneur Law Project June 11, 2024

In honor of National Small Business Month 2024, the City Bar Justice Center’s Neighborhood Entrepreneur Law Project (NELP) held four Virtual Legal Clinics in May.

The remote events provided free quality legal assistance to 40 small business owners and engaged 46 pro bono attorneys from Arnold & Porter LLP; Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP; Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP; Bank of America; and Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP.

Recognizing that impactful businesses require strong legal foundations, the volunteering attorneys advised microentrepreneurs on a diverse range of essential small business matters including business entity formation, labor & employment law, intellectual property rights, and contracts.

NELP primarily sourced clients from partnerships with The Bronx Business Solutions Center, Upper Manhattan Business Solutions Center, Brooklyn Public Library’s Business and Career Center, Pace University Small Business Development Center, and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce’s Business Solutions Center.

We greatly appreciate the continued collaboration and efforts of these valued community-based organizations and volunteering attorneys to successfully aid those who seek to achieve financial stability through entrepreneurship.
