The City Bar Justice Center’s Response to Superstorm Sandy

The Justice Center’s work is to mobilize the legal community to respond to unmet legal needs. As exemplified by the pro bono programs it developed following 9/11, Hurricane Katrina and the earthquake in Haiti, the Justice Center has a history of training and mobilizing pro bono volunteer attorneys to meet those needs when disasters strike.

This past weekend the City Bar Justice Center mobilized around 30 trained pro bono lawyers to staff clinics at two sites on both Saturday and Sunday in the storm-ravaged Rockaways. The volunteers gave brief advice to 59 clients and provided information to additional folks who stopped by with basic questions.
