Monday Night Law: Russ Bleemer
The Monday Night Law program is a free legal clinic that provides consultations to New Yorkers with moderate means on a variety of legal areas.
For over 20 years, on an entirely pro bono basis, Russ Bleemer, Consultant Editor at the International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution, coordinated the Monday Night Law program, which took place in person every Monday evening all year round. He generously devoted countless hours recruiting volunteers and organizing trainings. In addition to supervising and mentoring both new and seasoned volunteers, Russ also provided direct counseling to participants of the program seeking assistance with their legal issues. Behind the scenes, Russ provided oversight to ensure that the clinic ran efficiently, resolved complex issues, and navigated administrative challenges. Under his leadership, the Monday Night Law program was able to assist over 1,000 people a year and maintain a roster of over 100 volunteers.
In 2020, the robust Monday Night Law program came to an abrupt stop as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, since relaunching in 2024, Russ, embodying the true spirit of volunteerism, has returned to the program and continues to provide consultations to individuals in need.
Russ’ presence has been a steady, guiding force for the Monday Night Law program and the New York City Bar Association as a whole.
In honor of his legacy of service and unwavering commitment to helping others, we are honored to present Russ with a 2025 Outstanding Pro Bono Lifetime Achievement Award.
