PRO BONO HONOREES
The City Bar Justice Center salutes the following individuals who were honored at our annual Epstein Awards event in October 2019. The awards ceremony is named for Jeremy G. Epstein (1946-2009), a Shearman & Sterling LLP partner and board member at the City Bar Justice Center, The Legal Aid Society, and the Fund for Modern Courts. Mr. Epstein logged over 5,000 hours of pro bono and public service over 20 years.
Homeowner Stability Project: Christopher Cogburn, Kobre & Kim
Working with the Justice Center’s Homeowner Stability Project, Kobre & Kim attorney Christopher Cogburn went above and beyond to help a disabled senior client preserve hundreds of thousands of dollars of accumulated equity in the Bronx co-op he lived in much of his life and inherited from his parents – going so far as to travel to the co-op with the police on a Friday night to enforce the order Chris secured restoring the client to his home following his eviction during the coldest week of this past winter. Many Justice Center clients are like Chris’s client – elderly or otherwise vulnerable, and in need of legal assistance to preserve what they have worked hard to accumulate.
