The Consumer Bankruptcy Project advises New Yorkers struggling with consumer debt on their options and eligibility to file for bankruptcy relief. 

Schuyler Carroll, Partner at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, has taken many pro bono cases throughout the years and has contributed over 3,000 hours of pro bono service to the project. His background, expertise, and years of litigation experience in Bankruptcy Court have been invaluable when guiding our clients through the federal court system with clarity and compassion. As a dedicated and active member of our pro bono bankruptcy panel, Schuyler has consistently stepped up to take on cases referred to us by the courts. Even when cases seem daunting or complex, Schuyler responds ready for the challenge.

In one case, an elderly woman facing foreclosure after her husband’s passing filed multiple bankruptcies in two district courts in an attempt to save her home. Schuyler answered the call to help – amended her filings, secured a discharge of her debts, and even negotiated a mediation agreement with the bank – ultimately saving her home.

Recently, Schuyler represented a small nonprofit that serves NYC’s trans community of color. Because of his zealous advocacy, which led to a successful settlement payment, the nonprofit was able to continue providing vital services to a vulnerable population.
