PRO BONO HEROES
Brittany Bacon, Hunton and Williams LLP
Brittany Bacon, an associate at Hunton and Williams, has handled approximately 50 cases with the City Bar Justice Center’s Legal Clinic for the Homeless, recovering over $20,000 for her clients. Brittany now coordinates all the pro bono volunteers at Hunton for the Legal Clinic for the Homeless. Brittany advocated for government-funded child care benefits for her formerly homeless client who had transitioned from welfare to work. After the client was no longer eligible for these benefits, the client was distraught because she could not afford to pay the fees at her daughter’s preschool. She would have had to quit her stable job to care for her child, and she was at risk of ending up back in the shelter system. Brittany went to work appealing to various charities. As a result of Brittany’s efforts, the client remained at her job and her daughter was able to stay in school. We applaud the work that Brittany has done for all her clients and for her leadership role in coordinating other attorneys’ pro bono activities with CBJC.
