The City Bar Justice Center Holds Its 10th Annual Veterans Day Celebration and Ethics CLE
by Anthony Johnson November 14, 2025
The City Bar Justice Center held its 10th annual Veterans Day Celebration and Ethics CLE on Wednesday, November 12 in support of the Veterans Assistance Project (VAP). This event serves to educate our dedicated staff and pro bono volunteers about the complex intersection of legal, moral, and professional considerations that attorneys must navigate when advocating for veterans and their survivors before the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
Opening remarks were delivered by Kurt M. Denk, the City Bar Justice Center’s Executive Director. “Our Veterans Assistance Project’s knowledgeable, dedicated team, along with our pro bono volunteers, recognize that veterans and their survivors need a place to turn to if they are in need of legal assistance,” he said. “This goes beyond just legal representation; it provides a support system that many may not have otherwise.”
The main program, “Ethics of Representing Veterans & Survivors Before the Department of Veterans Affairs,” was led by Makedah K. Salmond, Director of the Veterans Assistance Project.
The Veterans Assistance Project, currently in its 18th year of service, provides veterans and their survivors living at or below poverty level in New York City, Long Island, and Westchester County with pro bono legal assistance on claims for disability benefits from the VA.

The event raised over $55,000 for the Veterans Assistance Project to continue its mission. Thank you to our 2025 sponsors for their continued support.
