The City Bar Justice Center hosted its inaugural πΉπ‘Žπ‘™π‘™ π‘“π‘œπ‘Ÿ 𝐽𝑒𝑠𝑑𝑖𝑐𝑒 fundraiser on Wednesday, September 17 at Magic Hour Rooftop in Midtown Manhattan. With the help of our Pro Bono Leadership Council, the event raised $40,044 to support the Justice Center’s work to provide free, high-quality legal aid to New Yorkers!

Executive directorΒ Kurt M. DenkΒ kicked off the festivities with an overview of the Justice Center’s impact over the past year. “We provided high-quality legal services that benefitted 27,000 New Yorkers,” he said. “27,000 far exceeds the capacity of Madison Square Garden.”

Thomas Wright, Director of Complex Litigation & Strategic Partnerships at Esquire Deposition Solutions, and Timothy C. Nash, Jr., Assistant General Counsel at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, provided remarks as co-chairs of the Pro Bono Leadership Council. “The Pro Bono Leadership Council is a group of dedicated legal professionals who champion the Justice Center’s work,” Nash, Jr. said. “We’re so proud to be leaders of the council, and we’re so proud of the work that the Justice Center does for real New Yorkers everyday across various economic spectrums.”

Wright, who volunteers with the Justice Center’s Monday Night Law clinic, put into perspective the barriers that many face when attempting to access the legal system. “Most of us here work in the legal profession in some way or another,” he said. “We take for granted how difficult it is, as even the simplest of legal issues can become daunting for the average New Yorker.” Speaking from experience with the Neighborhood Entrepreneur Law Project, Nash, Jr. encouraged fellow attorneys to look into volunteer opportunities, and both emboldened the over 50 people in attendance to continue to support the Justice Center’s work with a donation.
