Make Justice a Movement: The City Bar Justice Center Celebrates Pro Bono at its 2021 Gala

by CBJC Staff May 28, 2021

The City Bar Justice Center held its 16th Annual Gala, “Make Justice a Movement,” on Tuesday, May 25, featuring vibrant dance and music performances filmed in iconic spaces of the historic NYC Bar Association building. The artistic performances were inspired by the #GreatLawyers4Good and #BarofHope movements led by our colleagues, pro bono partners, and the larger City Bar community, whose unwavering commitment to bringing the legal community together and providing critical pro bono support to New Yorkers in need during the pandemic truly stands out as exemplary. If you missed the virtual 2021 gala, or if you would like to rewatch this special celebration, please click here.

Special guests who provided remarks included Sheila S. Boston, New York City Bar Association President, David Levine, City Bar Fund Chair, and Kurt M. Denk, City Bar Justice Center Executive Director. We are proud to have honored Kirkland & Ellis and Morgan Stanley with our 2021 City Bar Justice Awards for their leadership and dedication to pro bono and public service, especially in connection with their significant contributions to our COVID-19 response initiatives. Award acceptance speeches were provided by Erica Berthou, Partner at Kirkland & Ellis, Jacqueline Haberfeld, Global Program Director and Pro Bono Counsel at Kirkland & Ellis, and Eric J. Law, Executive Director and Pro Bono Lead Counsel at Morgan Stanley.

A special thank you to our Benefit Committee (listed below) and our justice supporters who made a donation – your contributions fuel our mission to further access to justice to address the unmet civil legal needs of New Yorkers struggling with poverty and systemic socioeconomic barriers. We look forward to your continued partnership. Until next time!
