Cannabis Equity in NYC: NELP Concludes Successful New Initiative for Future Small Businesses
by The Neighborhood Entrepreneur Law Project January 26, 2023
Our Neighborhood Entrepreneur Law Project successfully launched an initiative to advise micro-entrepreneurs on New York’s new cannabis licensing regulations and incentives to participate in this new industry on the part of individuals disproportionately impacted by cannabis prohibition laws. The six-part Small Business Cannabis Presentation Series was held in collaboration with the Brooklyn Public Library’s Business and Career Center and the New York City Bar Association’s Drugs and the Law Committee.
Volunteer attorneys presented on the evolving nature of cannabis-related business regulations covering topics such as employment, entity formation, taxation, and funding. The series averaged 40+ attendees per presentation and garnered significant community interest and enthusiasm. NELP will continue supporting small business owners and entrepreneurs of limited economic means who hope to participate in an evolving industry as licensing regulations are released.
